“We take two identical goals at the end”: the regrets of Monegasque Denis Zakaria after the defeat against Benfica on Wednesday evening (3-2)

A crazy match, the likes of which we rarely see. This Wednesday, November 28 at the Louis-II stadium, the players of AS Monaco and those of Benfica engaged in a very intense fight, ultimately won by the Portuguese (3-2).

Coming to appear before the press after the fight, captain Denis Zakaria regretted these two similar goals conceded at the end of the match and pointed out the very (too) authoritarian behavior of the referee of the match.

Is there any frustration after this good match on your part?

Yes, a lot. I think we could, and should, take three points, but that's not the case so yes, there is frustration.

There were some great things, especially the first goal…

Yes, we showed a lot of qualities. Even at ten (Singo was excluded). This is one of the good points of this match, even if there is no victory. We have to work on the rest. We take two somewhat identical goals at the end, we have to work on this point.

“The referee was arrogant, it’s a shame”

What happened in the first half when you received a yellow card after speaking with the referee?

It was a bit special. I'm captain, so normally it's me who has to speak with him, but he didn't want to and he gave me a yellow card directly. He was quite arrogant and turned his back on us whenever we wanted to talk to him. I find that a shame.

When you break down at the end of the match, is it fatigue or the genius of Di Maria (two assists)?

It's a bit of both. Ten against twelve, it's complicated… Di Maria, he's an international class player and he punished us. He is one of the exceptional players, even if you go for him he can make the difference.
