The themes:

Government censorship:

The government is seeking to dissuade the Socialist Party from voting for a motion of censure by reminding it of its “responsibility” as the former ruling party. Government spokesperson Maud Bregeon pointed out “the incredible responsibility” of the socialists if the left tabled a motion of censure, urging them to “break away from their links” with La insoumise. The left-wing parties allied in the New Popular Front, PS, LFI, PCF and Ecologists, have promised to table a motion of censure when the Prime Minister uses article 49.3 to allow the adoption of the budget without a vote, being deprived of a majority absolute. However, if the RN joins its votes to those of the left, they arithmetically bring down the government.

Trial of the National Rally:

The trial for suspicion of fictitious employment of European parliamentary assistants of the National Rally “does not enter into consideration” for possible government censorship, assured Marine Le Pen on the last day of her trial. Asked about the political consequences of this trial, Ms. Le Pen replied that there were “zero”. “I will do what I have to do in the case of the defense of the French. And this trial which is taking place is in no way taken into consideration,” affirmed the leader of the RN deputies. “I still have the hope that we will be heard. Now see you in 4 months,” she said in front of many journalists.

Ceasefire in Lebanon:

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into force on Wednesday in Lebanon, after nearly a year of cross-border hostilities which turned into open war in September between the Israeli army and the powerful Lebanese formation supported by Tehran. Israel has said it will not hesitate to strike if the ceasefire is violated, and plans to return its focus to defeating the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in Gaza, as well as its archenemy, the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The United States, which played an important role, alongside France, in obtaining the truce, will remain essential for the continuation of events in the Middle East. In announcing the ceasefire on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained that Israel would now be able to focus on Gaza and Iran.
