The small village of Saint-Loup-de-Naudnear Provins, in Seine-et-Marne, woke up under the choc this Wednesday, November 27. It was around four o'clock in the morning when a maison of 100 m² was blown away by an explosion of undetermined origin.
Inside and among the rubble, the few 40 firefighters, accompanied by a dog team from Provins and two deminers from Orly (Val-de-Marne), found the lifeless body of a 31 year old woman. And 34 year old man was discovered in the street and immediately transported to the Parisian Georges-Pompidou hospital with a life-threatening prognosis. The neighborhood was cordoned off and evacuated as a precaution, especially as other houses were affected.
Old explosives stored in the house?
What happened for the explosion to pulverize the house (the huge explosion was felt in the neighboring communes of Chenoise-Cucharmoy, Poigny and Sainte-Colombe)? The investigation, opened by the Melun public prosecutor's office, will have to determine this, but the hypothesis of a gas leak was quickly ruled out, because the house was not connected to gas. However, the presence of gas cylinders could explain intensity of the explosion.
According to “Le Parisien”, the presence of old explosives in the pavilion is a lead favored by the police.
