THE daytime running lights (or daytime running lights) have been mandatory since February 2011. These lights, now LEDcome on automatically when the vehicle is started. The objective? Make cars more visible on the road when they are moving. This idea of daytime running lights comes to us from the Scandinavian countries, precursors, and with which the authorities had noted a drop considerable accidents of the road. All vehicles are affected, including trucks and buses since August 2012.
If daytime running lights have become part of our habits, they nonetheless remain subject to questioning. Because it induces a behavior unexpected among motorists. Indeed, in times of rainactivating the low beam headlights is mandatory in order to make the vehicle more visible, both at the front and at the rear. Except that many motorists believe that daytime running lights are enough. However, with two or three exceptions, these only work at the front and not at the rear.back.
Accident risks
In this scenario, the cars become invisible or « ghosts » in rainy weather and they therefore create dangerespecially when precipitation is heavy. However, many motorists do not feel like they are becoming walking dangers, simply because their daytime running lights are on and their dashboard instrumentation is backlit – it’s a constant now, especially with digital dashboards. Everything suggests that we are therefore visible, but this is not the case.

Pour VIASthe situation is known and the arrests from the numerous public. The problem is that the rear lights are not activated, except on certain models, like the Renault Mégane for example. But this remains with a few other models l’exception.
Change on a global level?
According to VIAS, the SPF Mobility would have been notified and would have received an information file with the objective of setting up an international working group which could lead to a modification of European, or even global, legislation. This could lead to the obligation for manufacturers to couple ignition from front to rear lights for daytime running lights. Which, by the way, is not enough since the Highway Code recommends turning on the low beam headlights and even the front and rear fog lights during heavy rain. That said, these changes at the legislative level will take at least several years.
VIAS recognizes, however, that part of the situation is also due to the ignorance of motorists features of their car. In particular, these do not always know which headlights to turn on and which are coupled (front-rear) not. But it is obviously also increasingly rare with the automatic switching on of the lights which also turn on as soon as the windshield wipers are working… So let’s see.
