Microsoft continues to sink in with its Windows 11 updates. If Americans can already benefit from certain AI-boosted features, in Europe, in addition to not taking advantage of these new features, we find ourselves in sometimes very absurd situations.

A problematic update for gamers

The Windows 11 24H2 update, deployed at the beginning of October, poses a serious problem for users of several Ubisoft games. Microsoft has confirmed that five popular titles, including Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, are experiencing major issues. These games may refuse to start, display a black screen, or suddenly stop working.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

Faced with the scale of the problem, Microsoft has suspended the deployment of this update on the affected computers. According to the firm, this compatibility suspension prevents players using impacted titles from automatically receiving the update via Windows Update. Microsoft also advises against any attempt at manual installation, particularly via tools such as the installation wizard or the media creation tool.

Ubisoft already on deck

Ubisoft responded by releasing a temporary patch for Star Wars Outlaws, but it doesn't completely fix the issues. Other affected games remain awaiting fixes. The two companies are working together to come up with a definitive solution, but no specific date has yet been communicated.

This new incident adds to a list of problems associated with Windows 11 24H2. Among them, system crashes (BSOD), Wi-Fi malfunctions and clipboard issues. Although the update was tested through the Insider program, its wide rollout reveals some concerning gaps.

Waiting for a fix…

Microsoft advises users experiencing these issues to force quit blocked games through Task Manager. A temporary solution, but far from ideal for impatient gamers.

This new episode rekindles the debate on the reliability of Windows updates. While these aim to improve performance and security, repeated bugs harm the user experience, particularly for gamers, an often demanding audience.
