Thônex, November 24

I note that overall, the articles concerning the increase in automobile tax always allude to vehicles that are already old, namely more than 10 years old. And that some have seen their tax decrease, luckily for them, and others increase in indecent proportions. For my part, I own a standard Fiat Ducato van put into circulation in 2008. It has a cylinder capacity of 2287 cm³ and a power of 88 kW. Tax for 2024: 297 fr. 50. This vehicle is converted into a camper van and used for holidays as well as around ten weekends per year. I have interchangeable plates with a small car, so it is the motorhome which is taxed the most. The motorhome according to the circulation permit cannot be found in the calculation tables of the OCV (Cantonal Vehicle Office).

I have, for practical reasons, changed this vehicle for a new model in March 2024. This new vehicle, very beautiful, brand new, with the latest engine and technical innovations plus adBlue, remains a Fiat Ducato van also converted into a camper. because. It has a displacement of 2184 cm³ (103 cm³ less) and a power of 103 kW (15k W more). As a reward for having exchanged the old for the new, I had the unpleasant surprise of receiving the 2025 taxes for an exorbitant sum of 2472 francs, or 2174 francs. 50 more than for 2024, the additional 15 kW is expensive. (144 fr. 96 per kW) as well as the km traveled in Geneva. This new motorhome, according to the circulation permit, cannot be found in the OCV calculation tables. And no information on the number of CO2/km in the COC (certificate of conformity) of the vehicle.

This is a leisure vehicle, my trips being a maximum of 400 km in the canton of Geneva (from Thônex to the motorway, 25 km, or from Thônex to the nearest customs, 2 to 10 km ). I am not going on vacation or a weekend to Geneva. In view of the above, I think our authorities and the OCV have fallen on their heads and have no idea what they have put in place. Even though all the vehicles circulating in the canton, GE plates only represent 50%. The other half continues to pollute for free. Look for the error. There remains one solution: increase the number of VS plates.
