Fiat could soon lower the price of the electric 500 in France: why we believe it

In Great Britain, Fiat has lowered the price of its electric car, the Fiat 500e. The good news is that this price reduction could also happen in France. But will we have to wait long? We already have a little idea.

With the Fiat 500 at 89 euros per month, you will be able to flex cheaply

The electric Fiat 500e has not had an easy life in recent months, due to the competition that is multiplying affordable electric cars. Especially since the price of the small Italian city car has increased significantly in parallel. However, it remains quite high in the rankings, since in June, it sold 1,240 units in France. But that is not enough for Stellantis, the parent company, which cannot keep the production lines running at full capacity due to the low demand.

We know that Fiat is preparing a hybrid version of the 500, precisely to increase the production rate of its Mirafiori plant. We also know that the Italian company is preparing a ” a restructured platform will integrate next-generation battery technology to design a more affordable model for our customers” as announced in April 2024.

3,800 euros reduction for the Fiat 500e

From a commercial point of view, Stellantis seems to be becoming more aggressive, as evidenced by the price of the electric Fiat 500e which is plummeting in Great Britain as reported by the media Electrive. The reduction is rather generous, in the order of 3,200 pounds (around 3,800 euros). Especially since across the Channel, Fiat is also offering 3,000 pounds (around 3,500 euros) of reduction to compensate for the end of the ecological bonus in the country. In the end, the Fiat 500e then becomes as affordable as the new Citroën ë-C3, which is not entitled to these reductions from Stellantis.

The big question is whether this price drop for the electric Fiat 500e in Britain is a result of the new platform, or simply an aggressive pricing policy to regain market share. The other question is whether this price drop could cross the Channel and end up in France.

Because in France, you still have to pay from 30,400 euros (excluding ecological bonus) to get the Fiat 500e. Fortunately for it, the social leasing at the beginning of the year allowed the floodgates of orders to open a little more. But the latter should settle down, unless Fiat makes a price adjustment.

For comparison, the Fiat 500e sells for around 25,000 euros in Great Britain with all the discounts offered by the manufacturer.

When will prices drop in France?

We can therefore expect a price drop in France, if Stellantis wants to boost demand in our market. Concerning the new, more affordable LFP battery, we imagine that it has not yet been integrated into the city car, and that we will have to wait a few months before seeing this new version on the roads.

In the end, for France, the price drop of the Fiat 500 will happen sooner or later. Either in a few days or weeks, for commercial reasons. Or in a few months, for technical reasons, with the integration of the new platform.
