November 19 Nikos Romanos, arrested yesterday while returning home, was brought to the prosecutor’s office. The reason for this arrest is a fingerprint, detected on one of the objects found in the apartment which exploded in Ambelókipi, in Athens, causing the death of an anarchist activist and serious injuries to an activist (see our article ). Specifically, a fingerprint was found on a bag containing a weapon. A ballistic test established that the weapon was never used.
Nikos Romanos is known not only in anarchist circles, but also in Greek society in general, since he was a friend of Alexis Grigoropoulos and an eyewitness to his murder, which sparked the 2008 uprising. In the past, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for possessing and planting explosive devices in 2012, a sentence which was reduced to 14 years, and to 11 years for his participation in two bank robberies in Kozani. He was finally released in July 2019, for good behavior. In prison, he received the support of thousands of people, not only from the movement, which led to massive mobilization in the streets to support his hunger strike, then his thirst strike (see our articles).
