Six Uqamians were rewarded during the Annual General Meeting of Ostéopathie Québec, which took place on November 23, in Montreal. Associate professor of the Department of Physical Activity Sciences René Pelletier received the Recognition prize, which highlights the contribution of a member to the advancement of osteopathy or to the notoriety of the profession. The Outreach prize was awarded to the organizing committee of the Acfas conference entitled Osteopathy: the teaching of a future university discipline, which took place on May 17. The committee was made up of lecturer from the Department of Physical Activity Sciences Anaïs Beaupré, master’s student Maude Cavanagh, her colleague David Trottier, professor Alain Steve Comtois and associate professor François Lalonde.
An expert in musculoskeletal injuries and sports medicine, René Pelletier has been practicing osteopathy since 1998. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical activity sciences from Concordia University (1990), a master’s degree in biomedical sciences (1992) and of the doctorate in rehabilitation sciences (2019) from the University of Montreal. Adopting a patient-centered approach, René Pelletier believes in the importance of education, the role of the consultant in their journey as well as the therapeutic alliance to help people regain their shape and maximize their quality of life.
This fall, UQAM became the first university in Quebec to offer training in the field: the second cycle microprogram in clinical safety in osteopathy and the second cycle microprogram for advanced training in osteopathy. “UQAM was at the heart of the speeches on the advancement of the profession during the general assembly,” underlines François Lalonde.
