It was live from the Librairie Poirier in Trois-Rivières that the 2024 Clément-Marchand Prize was awarded to Karolann St-Amand for her text “After the tulips, before the ruins”. The latter stood out for his evocative images, his particularly rich and sophisticated vocabulary, the accuracy of his images, as well as his sense of rhythm.
The jury, made up of Anne-Marie Duquette, author and literary director of the magazine Le Sabord, Isabelle Gentès, author, and Éric Roberge, poet and professor of literature at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières, highlighted the great mastery of the author’s atmosphere, the depth of the subject, particularly in the way of treating interiority. This text bears witness to a personal signature, its own universe, a singular voice.
Karolann therefore received a $1,000 grant offered by Culture Trois-Rivières, while her text will also be published in the magazine Le Sabord.
The Clément-Marchand prize was awarded to Fabienne Elliott for “Feux”. This carefully constructed short story is original, in addition to being poetic and having a certain breath, noted the jury. The universe deployed is well defined and credible. The balance between reflection and narrativity is also exemplary. Fabienne was awarded a $500 scholarship from Librairie Poirier.
Remember that the Clément-Marchand Prize, which celebrated its 44th anniversary this year, is an initiative of the Society of Writers of La Mauricie, in collaboration with its valuable partners, namely Culture Trois-Rivières and Le Sabord (1st prize), and the Librairie Poirier (2nd prize). (JC)
