A thirty-year-old man was stabbed to death in Laval this weekend, in the Bourny district, according to our colleagues from Ouest-France. The fatal attack occurred during the night from Saturday to Sunday, around 1:30 a.m., the Laval prosecutor confirmed to us. “His twin brother was also injured with a handgun butt to the face. Following this injury, he was treated by the Laval hospital center and was released a few hours later“, adds the magistrate.
The motive for the fatal attack remains unknown at this time.
An investigation was opened to aggravated homicide and attempted aggravated homicide and entrusted to the Interdepartmental Service of the Judicial Police of Angers as well as to the Departmental Directorate of the National Police of Laval. For now, investigations are focusing on finding the perpetrators of this double attack. The motive for the incident is not known at this stage.but the neighborhood and its residents are in shock.
On the Place de la Commune, a stone's throw from where the victim was killed, Matthieu walks with his two daughters, Emma and Clara, 10 years old. Usually, they come home from school alone, but the dad insisted on picking them up this afternoon. “Logically, they have five minutes left to play. There, I told them to come home, so we wouldn't have to worry. I saw that there was a police car there. So they're securing the place, but it's true that it's quite shocking“, confides the father, who has lived in the neighborhood for fifteen years, and evokes a growing feeling of insecurity.
“They were really nice”
Matthieu explained to his daughters what had happened. One of the two, Emma, has not lost her smile, but still expresses her concern. “It scares me a little, but if it was just an argument, I don't think it's going to happen again. But it still scares me a little.“In the building in which the victim resided, the residents are in shock. Most remember someone helpful and very kind, in the words of a neighbor.
Yves lives on the third floor. His kitchen window overlooks the square where the knife attack took place. The retiree often crossed paths with the victim and his twin brother while going to get his newspaper. “They were really nice. They didn't bother anyone. I am 85 years old, and the mother of these twins accompanied me to do my shopping, because I can no longer drive. She doesn't deserve this, dammit…“, testifies Yves.
The mayor requests police reinforcements
The mayor of Laval, Florian Bercault, asks for his part police reinforcements for several months at the Ministry of the Interiorand recalls its commitment to “ensure tranquility“residents.”As mayor, I will not let go of the pressure to have resources that meet the security challenges. For months and months now, I have been asking for a strengthening of the national police force, since security is first and foremost the concern of the State.“, declares the mayor.
Florian Bercault, however, wishes to emphasize the commitment of law enforcement officers already present on the ground. “Last Wednesday, we were in the Bourny district for an anti-narcotics operation, with the municipal police and the national police. I believe that a firm response is expected, so as not to allow violence such as the Bourny district experienced to take hold.“
