A fairly unusual fire outbreak. This Monday, reports Sud-Ouest, the explosion of a laundromat caused a fire in a building in downtown La Rochelle. The building also partially collapsed.
An explosion breaks out in a laundromat
It was around 7 p.m. when the explosion took place. On the ground floor of a building in the city center, located rue du Cordouan, there is a laundromat. This is probably where the explosion started which then caused the partial collapse of the building.
Residents come out before the flames arrive
And it didn't stop there. A fire broke out in the building, destroying the roof. According to our colleagues, a large number of firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene.
The residents would have had time to get out before the fire spread, authorities assure. There would be no no victims. Reconnaissances nevertheless continue this evening.
At this time, it is unknown what caused the explosion, and whether people were present in the laundromat at the time.
