Nvidia should present its new RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 graphics cards at the beginning of 2025, at CES in Las Vegas, for a release at the end of January. Both GPUs could see their prices increase compared to the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090. The RTX 5070 should follow very soon after, targeting a much broader target of gamers.
The next generation of Nvidia graphics cards, the RTX 50 family based on the Blackwell architecture, will soon be presented to the public. According to the specialist Youtuber Moore’s Law is Deadwhich cites two sources from Nvidia partner resellers, the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, the first Blackwell GPUs to be marketed, will be officially announced on the occasion of CES 2025which brings us to the beginning of January.
You will then not have to wait long before being able to obtain these new graphics cards, since they would go on sale only a few weeks after their presentation. The start of deliveries could therefore take place around the end of January.
RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 in January, RTX 5070 in February?
Moore’s Law is Dead also mentions the case of the RTX 5070, which would also be announced in January. Nvidia perhaps plans to make it official during CES, but without going into detail about the technical characteristics and performance, to keep the light on the more high-end models. More information on the RTX 5070 could however be shared shortly after, during the month of January, for availability which should not drag on, probably from February.
We will therefore very quickly be able to get our hands on the first RTX 50 graphics cards, but the good news seems to stop there. Because as far as prices are concerned, we can expect a significant increase on some, or even all, references. The first concern comes from marketing materials that Nvidia sent its customers. The Greens explain that graphics cards with higher performance than the RTX 5070 Ti (the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, therefore) must be considered as components “intended for professionals”.
This does not necessarily mean that access to the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 will be more difficult for the general public. A priori, regular retailers should continue to sell these two models and the GPUs will be embedded in personalized graphics cards from the usual third-party partner manufacturers, such as Gigabyte, Asus, PNY, MSI… On the other hand, the terms used by Nvidia may suggest that the price of RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 will soarmaking them more viable options for professionals than gamers.
The RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 as ideal compromises for gamers?
According to the latest indiscretions, the RTX 5090 could be sold from between 1,899 and 1,999 US dollars, compared to 1,599 US dollars for the RTX 4090. Overclocked versions offering more efficient cooling, offered by other manufacturers , should for their part exceed the symbolic threshold of 2,000 US dollars. In France, the RTX 4090 was launched at 1,949 euros, so we can anticipate a price that borders on 2 500 euros.
The RTX 4090 was already considered a professional graphics card more than intended for gamers. Unless you are very well off financially, the difference in gaming performance between the RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080 does not justify the price difference between the two GPUs. On this generation, it therefore seems that the RTX 5080 will also be part of this category. The performance of the RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 will be scrutinized very closely, since they will be presented by Nvidia as being the preferred solutions for most gamers.
The RTX 4070 is a very good graphics card for displaying games at 1440p, the RTX 5070 could also impose itself on 4K. It is expected with a GB205 GPU, 12 GB of video memory at 28 Gbps, a 192-bit interface and a bandwidth of 672 Gbps, all for a TGP of 250W. If this is confirmed, we can hope for a serious jump in performance compared to the RTX 4070. The RTX 5070 could titillate, without however reaching it, the power of an RTX 4080. Between the RTX 5070, the RTX 4080 and the RTX 4080 Super, Nvidia must consider that its mid-range offering is sufficient to push the RTX 5080 towards a more segment premium. We will have confirmation in a few weeks at CES.
