The Cotentin territorial food project is taking shape

The initiative for a Cotentin territorial food project (PAT) dates from 2020. But it does not stop at the borders of the Cotentin Bay Community of Communes,” explains Julie Destribats, economic development manager during the community council held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in Blosville (Manche). It is being built in partnership with the Cotentin Urban Community. Food is a theme that cuts across EPCI skills(public intermunicipal cooperation establishments) ».

Three axes, 45 actions

Labeled since November 8, 2024, the PAT, which therefore has advantages and resources, is structured into three main axes broken down into 45 actions. Firstly, it involves structuring local sectors by promoting local products in canteens. By opening collective points of sale to allow access to these products for everyone . Then, it will be necessary to raise awareness among the inhabitants to consume local, seasonal and quality . Finally, the intercommunality wishes to support the change in agricultural practices: in adaptation to climate change, by developing production systems favorable to the development of local food circuits. The objective is to raise awareness and unite producers around the project .

Two key actions for 2025

A vegetable store will be launched at the end of 2025 in La Hague. This involves structuring a local vegetable sector through collective catering . Another action: a logistical experiment. “ The objective is to remove the brakes on logistics in the face of the development of short circuits . In short: create platforms so producers can deliver close to home . The experiment will take place during 2025.

The partnership charter around this PAT has collected numerous signatures from organizations or communities, such as the Region, the West Normandy CCI, the Chamber of Trades and Crafts, the City of Cherbourg, etc.

A group of cofferdam orders (anti-flood system)

Five communities (CCBDC, Community of communes of Isigny Omaha, Saint-Lô, Agglo Cotentin, Carentan-les-Marais and Isigny-sur-Mer), participate in the expenses necessary to build up a stock of cofferdams for the benefit of the ASA (authorized trade union association) of Vire responsible for the maintenance and surveillance of the Vire water gates. She ensures installation, storage and proper maintenance specifies President Jean Claude Colombel. An operation which amounts to €60,000.

As part of its competence in matters of protection against the sea the CCBDC takes €12,000 . The community council validates this grouping of orders.

The AFPA (association for professional training of adults) contacted the CCBDC in order to be able to accommodate the Promo 16-18 system within the Youth Center. A program from the youth recovery plan dedicated to young people aged 16 to 18 who have left the school system without qualifications. This system is one of the stages of the journey supported by the local Missions.
