Wimbledon 2024, here we go. One of the matches that was particularly followed on our side of the Channel was the duel between Gaël Monfils and Adrian Mannarino in the afternoon.
Yet on his favourite surface, Adrian Mannarino could only resist against a conquering Gaël Monfils, winner in four sets 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Convincing, Gaël Monfils gained momentum during this match, having accelerated during the fourth set. Monfils will be in the second round, he has a date with Stan Wawrinka, three times Grand Slam winner, for a new enticing duel.
Alcaraz easy against Lajal
The Spaniard was effective against Mark Lajal, 262e world champion, who nevertheless played without complexes against the defending champion. Twice, the Estonian pushed Alcaraz to win in seven games before cracking in the third set which would be fatal for him. Final score 7-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Casper Ruud also advances to the second round after a three-set win over Australian Bolt, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. Sinner is expected to play Hanfmann later in the evening. In the women’s competition, Paolini and Sakkari each won in straight sets, and Coco Gauff will play later in the evening.
A mixed French assessment
In the other duel between French players, it was Alexandre Müller who beat Hugo Gaston 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. Maxime Janvier, who came through the qualifiers, was knocked out by Zhizhen, 7-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In the women’s draw, we will note the performance of Diane Parry who thought she achieved the feat against Naomi Osaka, but was ultimately eliminated after three hard-fought sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Clara Burel and Varvara Gracheva reached the second round quite easily.

On the program for Tuesday, the entry into contention of Djokovic and Zverev among the men, and Swiatek and Caroline Garcia among the women.
