Microsoft had to temporarily interrupt the deployment of the Windows 11 version 24H2 update on computers equipped with certain Ubisoft games. A wise decision following user reports. These latter speak crashes, black screens and performance issues on popular titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla et Star Wars Outlaws.
In response, Microsoft and Ubisoft are working together to resolve these issues. And this, while advising affected players not to install the update manually!
Ubisoft games affected by the update
The issues were confirmed by Microsoft in an official statement. After installing Windows 11 version 24H2, some Ubisoft games become unusable when launching, loading or even in the middle of a game. Here are the affected titles:
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Users reported these malfunctions on Reddit and in the Microsoft Feedback Hubdescribing sudden crashes or black screens making games unplayable.

A quick but partial answer
Ubisoft responded by deploying a temporary fix (v1.4.1) pour Star Wars Outlaws. That being said, the publisher warns that some performance issues may persist until a permanent solution is found. Other affected titles are still under further investigation.
Microsoft, for its part, has implemented a “compatibility block” to prevent automatic updating on systems containing these games. The company also recommends that players do not force manual installation of version 24H2 until a full fix is available.
Growing frustration among users
In addition, the players strongly expressed their dissatisfaction with these inconveniences, notably by pointing out that these problems could have been detected during the Insider Preview testing phase. A Reddit user wrote: “I can play for a few minutes before the game crashes. Before the update, everything worked perfectly.”
