What to remember from this first tour in the Rhône

What to remember from this first tour in the Rhône
What to remember from this first tour in the Rhône

1st constituency (west and south of the city of Lyon):
Anaïs Belouassa-Cherifi, standard-bearer of the New Popular Front, benefited from strong momentum and took a significant lead in the first round with 42.4% of the votes. Behind her, the outgoing deputy of the presidential majority, although established, Thomas Rudigoz, only received 29.72% of the votes.

Laurent Mouton, representing the National Rally, came in third with 18.1% of the vote, thus qualifying for a decisive three-way race in a constituency where far-right groups are particularly known for their violence, notably in Vieux Lyon, and must have been pleased with Sunday’s results.

This configuration seems to work in favor of the rebellious candidate, the dynamic Anaïs Belouassa Chérifi, who appears to be the big favorite for next Sunday’s election. The presence of the RN reduces the prospects of Thomas Rudigoz, who seems to lack the electoral reserves to defend his seat acquired in 2017 and has swapped his posters with Emmanuel Macron for the face of Gabriel Attal.

2nd constituency (Duchère, Vaise, Croix-Rousse, north of the Presqu’ile) :

Victory in the first round seemed almost certain for Boris Tavernier. In the 2nd constituency of the Rhône, the candidate of the New Popular Front largely dominated the vote with 49.65% of the votes in a constituency very favorable to the left. He largely distanced Loïc Terrenes of Renaissance, who obtained 25.12%, and Anaëlle Bisleau of the National Rally, credited with 14.3% (seriously, if even in this part of France a total unknown of the RN who did not respect the voters of a campaign is approaching 15%, where are we going?)

3rd constituency (Guillotière, Jean Macé, Monplaisir, Prefecture):

Marie-Charlotte Garin, outgoing MP, was re-elected in the first round in the 3rd constituency of Rhône. With 51.51% of the votes, the environmentalist candidate of the New Popular Front won by a wide margin, relegating Clara Eynaud-Lassalle, sent to the brink by Renaissance since the presidential party realized that the constituency, previously held by the elected Macronist Jean-Louis Touraine, who had dislodged the traditional right, had become unwinnable.

Clotilde Morin, representative of the National Rally, obtained 14.74% of the votes, while Béatrice de Montille, of the Republicans, presented for many years as the hope of tomorrow of the right in Lyon, collected 8.29% of the votes. A clear and uncontested victory for Marie-Charlotte Garin in this constituency who becomes the first woman elected in the first round in the history of Lyon. And the first representative of the left of the 5th Republic to be also. A victory of which she was not able to savor the full flavor on Sunday in view of the national situation.

4th district (Lyon 6th and part of the 3rd) :

The candidate of the New Popular Front, Sandrine Runel, who ran in the most complicated constituency for the New Popular Front, collected the most votes this Sunday evening. In the first round of the legislative elections, she placed herself in the lead with 38% of the votes. Behind her, the outgoing deputy of the presidential majority, Anne Brugnera, obtained 31.03% of the votes.
Yannick Chaumont, from the National Rally, came in third with 17.91%.

The second round is shaping up to be a three-way race in the 4th constituency of the Rhône. Next Sunday, the redistribution of right-wing votes could favor Anne Brugnera or the RN candidate. In the latter case, this would open up a boulevard for the socialist Sandrine Runel, whose profile, anything but extremist, is difficult to demonize for Emmanuel Macron’s candidate. The deputy mayor of Lyon has solid momentum and could be the first elected official from the left to win this constituency originally designed to be easily won by the right.

5th constituency (Caluire, Monts d’Or, Val-de-Saône) :

The outgoing MoDem MP, Blandine Brocard, came first with a clear lead, obtaining 32.23% of the votes. She is ahead of the socialist Fabrice Matteucci, who qualified brilliantly for the second round with 26.48% of the votes, despite the intensive campaign led by a war machine for the LR candidate Bastien Joint.
There will also be a triangular since Sasha Bitoum, representative of the National Rally, managed to qualify with 25.16% of the votes, despite a non-existent campaign, confirming that in politics the absence of work too often pays. Next Sunday, this triangular promises to be decisive for the political future of the constituency.

6th district (Villeurbanne):

In the 6th constituency of the Rhône, the outgoing rebellious deputy Gabriel Amard logically took the lead this Sunday during the first round of the legislative elections. With 46.29% of the votes, he is well ahead of the former socialist mayor Jean-Paul Bret, who started as a dissident and obtained 19.94%. The candidate of the National Rally, Délia Agus collected 18.94% of the votes, but narrowly did not reach the threshold of 12.5% of registered voters, excluding her from a possible three-way race.
The dazzling Marc Fraysse, former deputy and LR candidate, obtained 12.29% of the votes.

The second round will therefore pit Gabriel Amard against Jean-Paul Bret, two figures of the left who maintain tense relations, promising a bitter and decisive duel next Sunday. A duel which also foreshadows new possible balance of power in Villeurbanne, Jean-Paul Bret advocating greater affirmation of the socialist party, accusing his successor Cédric Van Styvendael, of sacrificing the party to the rose on the front of the union of the LEFT.

7th constituency (Rillieux, Vaulx, Bron) :

This Sunday, the left was largely in the lead in the 7th constituency of the Rhône. Abdelkader Lahmar, the civil society candidate invested by France Insoumise for the New Popular Front, came out on top with 46% of the vote. He was ahead of the outgoing Horizons MP, Alexandre Vincendet, who obtained 27.05% of the vote, closely followed by the National Rally candidate, Cédric Pignal, with 21.28%.

Thus, a three-way race is looming in the 7th constituency, with a very favourable balance of power for Abdelkader Lahmar. Hélène Geoffroy, the PS mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, with whom he does not always have the best relations, gave him her unequivocal support last night. Also note the collapse of LR, which went from winning the constituency to less than 4% in 2 years….

8th constituency (North-west Lyon, Ecully, Lentilly l’Arbresle, Tarare) :

This Sunday, a rather exceptional scenario occurred in the first round of the legislative elections in the Rhône.

In the 8th constituency, four candidates qualified for the second round, leading to a four-way race, barring withdrawals. The National Rally candidate, Jonathan Gery, came out on top with 33.46% of the vote. He was followed by the socialist and republican Anne Reymbaut with 22.75%, who achieved a feat in this not easy constituency.

Dominique Despras of the MoDem with 21.18%, and finally Nathalie Serre of the Republicans with 20.6%. Despras, as I write these lines, is spitting in the face of his party by refusing François Bayrou’s instructions to form a Republican front against the RN. Let’s hope this usually reasonable man comes to his senses. And the elected anti-abortion reactionary Nathalie Serre, outgoing LR, and only coming 4th, should not withdraw.

9th constituency (Villefranche, Beaujolais):

Academic Patrick Louis, supported by the National Rally and Marion Maréchal, came out on top in Beaujolais with 35.41% of the vote. He is a historic figure of the radical right in Lyon who could thus enter the National Assembly. He is ahead of the outgoing Republican MP, Alexandre Portier, who obtained 25.41%.

The New Popular Front candidate, Jean-Henri Soumireu-Lartigue, won 23.25% of the vote. A very good score in a difficult constituency by this organic farming enthusiast. However, he would undoubtedly withdraw in the second round, thus influencing the dynamics of this election.

10th constituency (Brignais, Chaponost, Irigny, Millery, etc.) :

The results of the first round of legislative elections in the 10th constituency of Rhône show a close competition between the Renaissance and Rassemblement National candidates.
The outgoing deputy, Thomas Gassilloud, obtained 32.54% of the votes, narrowly ahead of the RN candidate, Cécile Patout, who collected 31.15% of the votes without absolutely working for it.
The candidate of the New Popular Front, the socialist Florence Perrin, comes in third position with 23.64% of the votes after a campaign that she will have sought with energy and will, even if the RN momentum at the national level does not allow her to hold on to the second round as Michèle Edery was able to do in 2022. Her republican and responsible withdrawal should make it possible to block extremism and laziness.

11th constituency (Givors and southwest Lyon):

The Parisian lawyer LR-RN and ex-macronist and ex-UMP Alexandre Humbert Dupalais, came in first with 36.81% of the votes. When arriving in Lyon and leaving his TGV, he clumsily tried to lie on Sunday by claiming that the right was rallying around him before backtracking in the face of LR’s indignation.
He beat the outgoing Renaissance MP, Jean-Luc Fugit, who obtained 26.93% of the vote. The candidate of the New Popular Front, Abdel Youfsi, is third with 22.87% of the vote and withdrew to block the danger of the RN (unlike the macronist Despras in the 8th that we mentioned above). Renaud Pfeffer, the much-loved LR mayor of Mornant, called for a vote for Jean-Luc Fugit, also to block Parisian colonialism and extremism.

12th constituency (Tassin, Sainte-Foy, Oullins, west of Lyon):

The candidate of the New Popular Front, Lucie Gaillot-Durand, a doctor from civil society and supported by environmentalists, came first in the first round of the legislative elections with 30.2% of the vote. The work of its armies of activists, its commitment against PFAS have paid off.

She narrowly beat the outgoing Renaissance MP, Cyrille Isaac-Sibille, who obtained 28.97% of the vote and who often appeared to be campaigning very alone.

The National Rally candidate, Clémence Luisier, also qualified for the second round by coming third with 24.96% of the vote without doing the charity of going to meet the voters…Why work if you can have everything without doing anything?

13th constituency (Décines, Meyzieu, eastern Lyon):

Tiffany Joncour (RN) obtained 36.35% of the votes. It is a constituency where the RN’s scores are high, it is also one of the rare ones in which the party created by Jean-Marie Le Pen actually campaigned.
The candidate of the New Popular Front, Victor Prandt, came in second with 26.23% of the vote, ahead of the outgoing Renaissance MP, Sarah Tanzilli, who received 24.21%. Sarah Tanzilli, more responsible than Mr. Despras in the 8th constituency (yes I repeat myself but this story is crazy) also a Macronist, decided to withdraw. Embodying the honor of the republic. Thank you Sarah.

The Republican candidate, former MP for the constituency Philippe Meunier, came in far behind with 9.9% of the vote. Victim of a local climate that he helped to extremize, some say.

14th constituency (Vénissieux, St-Fons, part of St Priest):

Idir Boumertit came first in the first round of the legislative elections with 48.78% of the votes, coming close to re-election in the first round. The outgoing deputy from La France Insoumise is ahead of the candidate from the National Rally, Cédric Mermet, who obtained 28.21% of the vote. Next Sunday the solid deputy for Vénissieux should logically beat the RN candidate, a resident of the most bourgeois neighborhoods of downtown Lyon and who did not campaign.
