At early morning, the Pas-de-Calais firefighters were still on site. For most of the night, they fought with great resources (four variable flow nozzles) to put out a fire largely fueled by strong winds. Around 10:30 p.m., the alert was given on rue Pasteur, in Outreau.
When help arrived, the house was already completely engulfed in flames. The fight against the blaze lasted several hours. With the strength of the flames, emergency services were unable to enter the house for a long time. Once the fire was almost under control, making the house accessible, firefighters noted the death of an 82-year-old man.
« It was a nameless inferno, the vision of this house is shocking. The whole town is in shock. Residents were afraid of a spread, fortunately there was no more than that », Declared this morning the mayor of Outreau, Sébastien Chochois, on site all night. The origin of the fire is still unknown. A neighbor confided that a chimney fire was the cause, without any certainty at present.
