Bad news for PC gamers. A recent Windows 11 update is causing some games to crash so much that Microsoft has paused the system’s rollout.
Deploying an update to millions of machines around the world is never easy. Microsoft proved this again very recently with the 24H2 update. Supposed to simplify the lives of users, Windows 11 24H2 has created headaches for a lot of people. The fault is an incompatibility with certain Ubisoft games.
As noted Bleeping Computerand as Microsoft explained in its patch notes, certain games from the French studio may “ crash when launching, loading or during gameplay “. In other cases, the computer may simply display a black screen when launching or during gameplay.
Which games are affected?
1, 2 or 10 TB of cloud storage, for life
Tired of receiving messages about full cloud storage space? With pCloud, you only pay once and you have 1, 2 or 10 TB of storage space in the Cloud, for life.
If you are in one of these situations, the procedure to follow is simple, but brutal. Press “Ctrl + Alt + Del”, then locate the crashing game and end the process with a right click. The list of titles concerned is, a priori, as follows:
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Avatar : Frontiers of Pandora
According to some accounts, other games like Farcry or Call of Duty are also affected. In order not to add problems to the problem, Microsoft has completely suspended the update to Windows 11 24H2 on the machines where these games are installed. The update assistant will therefore not ask you to download the system image if the latter is likely to crash your machine.
What to do?
If you haven’t yet installed my 24H2 update, the wisest thing to do is to wait. Both Ubisoft and Microsoft are in the process of resolving the problem and surely a patched version of the system will arrive in the coming days. Don’t panic in the meantime, your version of Windows 11 remains secure and functional.
If you have already installed the update, there is little hope, since Ubisoft has already deployed a temporary fix for Star Wars Outlawsvia version 1.0.4.0 of the game. The company is working in parallel on fixes forAssassin’s Creed.

Finally, if you are still on the previous version of Windows, Microsoft does not recommend forcing the update via the system media creation tool, as this could create instabilities.
