After two convincing victories against Kortrijk (4-0) then against Cercle de Bruges (0-5) in the league before the break, the Mauves were keen to continue their momentum. It’s done since Anderlecht defeated Ghent 6 goals to 0 this Sunday evening. Mats Rits (23rd), Samuel Edozie (38th) and Kasper Dolberg (45th+1, 77th), Tiago Araujo against his camp (85th) and Francis Amuzu (88th) scored the Brussels goals.
The match turned to the advantage of Sporting Anderlecht in the first half, with a small dose of luck to start. In the 23rd minute, Mats Rits saw his shot deflected by Tsuyoshi Watanabe’s arm and wrong-footed Davy Roef (1-0). Ghent tried to react quickly, but Mathias Delorge’s powerful effort was deflected by the firm hand of Colin Coosemans. Unfortunately for Ghent, in the 38th minute, Samuel Edozie made it 2-0 on a service from Kasper Dolberg. Things turned into a fiasco for the Buffalos since in the 43rd minute, Jordan Torunarigha received a second yellow card which sent him to the locker room. On the resulting free kick, Dolberg sent a missile directly into the net (45th+1, 3-0).
The people of Brussels continued their momentum, helped by their numerical superiority. After alerts from Anders Dreyer (53rd) and Edozie (62nd), the Mauves scored a fourth goal, works from the man in form: Dolberg (77th). Just before that, Ghent had been reduced to nine, Lothar D’hondt having shown the direct red to Matisse Samoise after a VAR call (75th). Tiago Araujo scored a fifth goal, against his side, after a point-blank header from Sven Kums on him (85th, 5-0), before Francis Amuzu scored his own (88th, 6-0).
With 15 goals scored in the last three championship matches and 0 conceded, the Mauves are in very good form. Building on this success against Ghent, the Mauve are getting closer to 1 point from the podium and 8 points from the leader in Ghent.
Highlights of the meeting:
After 20 minutes of play, Rits picked up a ball at the edge of the area. The shot was deflected by Watanabe into his own goal. Anderlecht opened the scoring.
There was total efficiency for Anderlecht in the first half. After 38 minutes of play, Stroeykens found Dolberg perfectly in the rectangle. While the Dane was in a good position to strike, he instead slipped the ball to Edozie who was completely isolated. The Anderlecht winger just had to finish.
In the 45th minute, Torunarigha fouled Edozie at the edge of the penalty area. The Gant player received a second yellow, leaving his teammates at 10 against 11. And it was even a double penalty for Ghent since Dolberg was responsible for kicking the free kick which ended up in the back of the net.
The ordeal continued for the people of Ghent with a quarter of an hour to go. Samoise was excluded in turn, Ghent would finish the match at 9. Dolberg then offered himself a double 13 minutes from time. An own goal from Araujo made the score 5-0 (85th) while a goal from Amuzu sealed it at 6-0 (88th).
