While Olympique de Marseille is experiencing ups and downs in Ligue 1, coach Roberto De Zerbi wants to be reassuring about his future within the club.
Arriving at the start of the season after a promising transfer window, the Italian was supposed to breathe new life into OM, which was aiming high, notably by competing with Paris Saint-Germain for the title. However, the mixed results, notably the defeats against Auxerre and PSG, put pressure on the Marseille coach.
Unfailing commitment despite criticism
Despite the temptation of some to question his position, De Zerbi affirmed his desire to stay and continue building his project in Marseille. “I am not resigning. I am not fleeing,” he said firmly, recalling his resistance to much more difficult situations, such as when he was at the head of Shakhtar Donetsk in the midst of the war in Ukraine.
For him, it is essential to give his team time to assimilate his playing philosophy. Despite the current difficulties, the Italian coach believes in his work and in the quality of his group. The season is still young, and he hopes that OM can bounce back in the weeks to come.
