Meatballs containing rat poison were scattered in the Gardiole massif near Sète.
Three hunting dogs belonging to members of the Diane de Balaruc-les-Bains, near Sète, died within five days after ingesting poisoned pellets scattered throughout the Gardiole massif. Two other canines, in serious condition, are currently being treated by veterinarians in the area. According to our information, another dog is not in great health near Frontignan either.
A dozen dumplings quickly discovered
In order to clarify the situation, the Balaru hunters went to inspect the places they had recently passed through. Very close to the fire roads, they quickly discovered around ten pellets made up of kibble, meat and, visibly, rat poison. They should soon be analyzed to know their exact composition.
Call for caution
As a precaution, Jean-Pierre Mercadier, the president of the Diane de Balaruc-les-Bains, banned his members from hunting for three weeks. He also warned other companies in the area, notably those in Frontignan and Gigean. Of course, the greatest caution is recommended during family walks in the massif. Whether for walkers' dogs but also for children who could be poisoned by putting their fingers in their mouth after touching one of these pellets.
