A man and a 26-year-old woman, a couple, were arrested in Perpignan on Monday November 18, suspected of having killed two men with knives in Douarnenez (Finistère) before setting fire to the victims' apartment. Indicted on Thursday for several charges, including murder of a vulnerable person and alteration of a crime scene, they face life imprisonment, according to the Brest prosecutor's office.
The facts date back to November 9, in a HLM apartment in the Tréboul district, near the port of Douarnenez. Alerted by smoke, the police discovered the body of a 44-year-old man lying at the foot of the building, shirtless and bloodied. He died of 16 stab wounds. Inside the burned apartment, a second body, that of a 61-year-old man, bedridden and under guardianship, was also found, the victim of multiple stab wounds.
Investigators quickly identified a couple, present at the victims' home the day before the tragedy, before suddenly disappearing. The duo, born in 1998 and already known for intentional violence, was arrested in Perpignan. “The evidence collected and the interviews with the suspects confirm their involvement in the facts,” declared Camille Miansoni, public prosecutor.
The 61-year-old man, known for drug trafficking, lived in precarious conditions and regularly welcomed desocialized people or people in search of narcotics, according to the Quimper prosecutor's office. A bloodstained knife found in the grass nearby could prove crucial to the investigation.
The couple is now in pre-trial detention, awaiting trial. This macabre news item, which shocked Douarnenez, raises new questions about violence in working-class neighborhoods and the support of vulnerable people.
