A farm was ravaged by flames in the town of Alex, in Haute-Savoie. More than 200 goats lost their lives and the storage building was burned to the ground.
A real drama. On the night of Wednesday 20 to Thursday 21 November, firefighters from Haute-Savoie intervened in the town of Alex, south-east of Annecy, for a fire on a farm. A 600 m² goat barn on the farm was completely consumed by the flames, which also devastated a 200 m² material storage building.
The toll is very heavy: 200 goats died in this fire which broke out around midnight. “When the firefighters arrived on site, the goat farm building was already well engulfed in flames. The house managed to be saved,” explained Sdis 74.
This Thursday morning, firefighters were still on site for surveillance operations. Significant resources were deployed on site to extinguish the blaze. For the moment, the origin of this devastating fire remains a mystery.
The painful memory of the Bernesq stud farm
This tragedy recalls the fire which broke out in a stud farm in the town of Bernesq, in Calvados, where 70 horses perished in the flames on June 16. Mares and foals had notably died in a 500 m² shed, dedicated to the breeding of racing horses, the Calvados prefecture indicated.
In addition to the estate's recurring financial difficulties, other revelations were made about the Bernesq stud farm in February 2018. Mistreatment of animals had been reported to the courts by the animal defense association Stéphane Lamart. An inspection of veterinary services had been carried out.
