Tanner Howe was a high-profile prospect a year before the 2024 draft. Obviously, being on the same roster as Connor Bedard at the time greatly helped his candidacy. The latter, once drafted by the Hawks, left control of the Regina Pats in the hands of Tanner Howe.
Unfortunately, the transition was not very favorable for Howe's candidacy in his draft year. It was clear that Bedard did everything in this club in the company of Howe. The latter, although he played the right way, struggled to receive offensive support in the lineup. We even felt disinterested at times during the season. In the end, Tanner Howe, a prospect categorized as 1st round in 2023, ended his fall in the 2nd round (46th) in the Penguins organization in the 2024 draft.
A beneficial transaction
During Connor Bedard's short time in Regina, we never thought about the future. The club will have in no way been able to build around Howe since we reaped immense benefits with the presence of Bedard. Once again at the start of the season, it's difficult for Howe, who is completely left to his own devices in Regina. He has 7 points, including six goals, in 10 games. After a very good camp in Pittsburgh, he suffered an upper body injury in early October.
All these pitfalls to finally come to some good news! Indeed, the Pats made a transaction Wednesday evening and Tanner Howe was sent to Calgary. 2025 draft prospect Reese Hamilton is going the other way in a batch including picks.
Calgary decides to move to add offensive depth alongside Benjamin Kindel (2025), Carson Wetsch (SJS) and on defense, Carter Yakemchuk (OTT). We should expect to see Howe regain his dynamism and at the same time, his offensive production now that he is part of a better team.
