what prices for the small electric SUV which has the problem of being produced in China?

Mini has opened orders for its new small SUV, available only in electric form. Produced in China, it is deprived of bonuses… and could be weighed down by rising customs duties.

In a few months, the Mini offering went from a single electric model to three. In addition to the Cooper city car, which has just been completely renewed, the British firm now offers a trendy Countryman and this new Aceman. Small SUV measuring 4.07 meters in length (the size of a Clio), the Aceman only exists with electric versions.

The basic configuration is the E, with a 184 hp unit. It is associated with a battery with a net capacity of 38.5 kWh, which gives it a WLTP mixed cycle range of up to 309 km. The maximum direct current charging power is 70 kW.

The SE model has a 218 hp engine. The battery here has a net capacity of 49.2 kWh, the WLTP combined range climbs to 402 km. Fast charging is improved, with a peak of 95 kW, which is still below the standards of the category.

Finishes and main standard equipment

The range initially includes four finishes, which will have the same basic equipment as the Essential variant. There are thus as standard: 17-inch rims, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, rear collision warning, vehicle exit warning, 24 cm diameter OLED touchscreen, navigation, reversing camera, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, 60/40 bench seat.

The other three finishes (Classic, Favoured, JCW) will add exterior and interior styling elements (rims, roof, grille surround, etc.).

Then, Mini has planned a system of equipment packs, included or not as standard depending on the variants.

• Pack XS: heated front seats, driving modes, induction phone charging, alarm.
• Pack S: pack XS + hands-free access, head-up display, automatic high beams.
• Pack M: pack S + panoramic glass roof, rear windows supported.
• Pack L : pack M + navigation, hifi Harman Kardon, vision 360°.
• XL Pack: M pack + level 2 semi-autonomous driving, on-board camera, electric and massaging driver’s seat.

The costs

The Aceman is produced in China. It is therefore deprived of the ecological bonus. And that’s not all. The threat of increased customs duties on electric cars made in China could weigh heavily on prices.

Apart from the basic Essential version, the prices are not easy to understand on the Mini website, with the automatic integration of equipment packs on the prices displayed.
