The Cameroonian Head of State signed a decree on November 18 authorizing the Minister of Public Health to wear throughout the territory the insignia of the Commander’s Cross of the Pro Merito Melitensi Order of the Sovereign Order of Malta.
It is a distinction and recognition at 237 (Cameroon). Indeed, by decree No. 2024/567 of November 18, 2024, the Dr Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Healthwas authorized, by Paul Biya, the President of the Republic to wear throughout the territory, the insignia of the Commander’s Cross of the Pro Merito Melitensi Order of the Sovereign Order of Malta.
The “Commander pro Merito Melitensi of the Order of Malta” is an honorary title awarded by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (OSMM), a Catholic humanitarian and philanthropic organization.
Here is the meaning:
– “Commander”: noble rank in the Order of Malta, equivalent to a superior officer.
– “Pro Merito”: Latin for “for merit”, indicating that the title is awarded for exceptional service.
– “Melitensi”: reference to the Order of Malta, whose full name is “Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta”.
This title honors individuals who have contributed significantly to the humanitarian objectives of the Order of Malta, such as:
- Humanitarian aid
- Relief for refugees
- Support for vulnerable people
- Promotion of peace and justice
Recipients are generally eminent personalities, diplomats, military personnel or humanitarians who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the values of the Order of Malta.
