Brighton Labeau, the captain of the Martinique team, appeals to the French authorities to put an end to the surge in prices in the West Indies. The Guingamp attacker, whose wife and two children live there, intends to mobilize to fight against this worrying situation.
People in the West Indies are finding it increasingly difficult to eat properly. And athletes are trying to help them, by speaking out more often to alert public opinion and get the authorities to react. After Thierry Henry, Wendie Renard, Marcus Coco and Teddy Riner, Brighton Labeau, the captain of the Martinique team, in turn denounces the explosion in prices which particularly affect food products.
“The French leaders do not realize that the situation is very significant for the population. They are suffering, they have difficulty feeding themselves”, testifies in Ouest-France the Guingamp attacker, whose wife and two children ( a 6-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter) live there. “It’s very hard. When I see the way their mother handles the situation, I take my hat off to her.”
“Bananas are cheaper in mainland France even though we are the ones who produce them”
The 28-year-old striker, who wants to use his “little notoriety” to make things happen, asks the State to intervene quickly: “The cost of living is exaggerated, so it would be good if they stopped turn a blind eye, because it remains a French department and they can make real decisions to help the people, even if we are on the other side of the Atlantic. The people of Martinique deserve to be listened to. does not deserve the price of the races to be three to four times more expensive than in mainland France.”
Martinican international since 2022 (19 caps, eight goals), Brighton Labeau, trained in Monaco and passed through Romania, Belgium and Switzerland before signing last summer for Guingamp, cites the “flagrant” example of bananas, which have become very expensive in Martinique. “They are cheaper in mainland France even though it is we who produce them, it is illogical,” protests the native of Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis), who is trying to ally himself with local personalities, like the singer Kalash or the rapper Meryl, to fight against this worrying situation.
