Three years after the drama that unfolded on the set of “Rust”, the film was finally screened for the first time.
The Polish Camerimage festival screened for the first time the film “ Rust “. Co-produced by Alec Baldwin and directed by Joel Souza, the film was marred by the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was shot while preparing a scene. Alec Baldwin shot her with a loaded gun.
A few months after the tragedy, filming of the film resumed. This screening this Wednesday, November 20 was organized with the intention of paying tribute to Halyna Hutchins, assured the organizers. During the evening, the director, Joel Souza, who was also hit by the bullet, spoke.
HAS Varietyhe confides in the resumption of filming of the film after the death of his collaborator: “ The decision was not easy to make. At first I said no, several times. But it became clear to me that this was what the family wanted, that it was going to benefit them. So that aspect was kind of an initial psychological hurdle that I overcame. Maybe if it's important and they want me to do it, how could I say no? »

During the final editing of the film, it was still decided that the scene during which the shooting took place would be removed from the film.
During scenes involving firearms, the new gunsmith was particularly careful while gunshot sounds were added in post-production. “ I don't know what lessons this industry will have learned from this affair. », slips the director.
