We can say that the village of Pietra di Verde was hot. A fire broke out in the middle of the afternoon in the town of Pietra di Verde in Upper Corsica driven by gusts exceeding 150 km/h. He mobilized numerous resources on the site, including firefighters, road service agents from the Corsican Community as well as EDF personnel. Moreover, the village of Pietra is temporarily without electricity because of power lines torn by trees that have fallen on the road. Firefighters will stay most of the night to secure several areas.
Around twenty hectares burned
Access was difficult and the weather conditions, particularly branches on the road, slowed down the progress of human and material resources. Around 6:45 p.m., the wind changed and the fire was progressing towards departmental 17 between Chjatra and Pietra, forcing the firefighters to retreat to the road. The obstruction of the departmental road by electrical poles and trees even made it impassable for more than an hour.
After reconnaissance, the fire would have already burned around twenty hectares of scrub.
If the emergency services feared for a few hours that the flames would reach the houses of the village, the wind which calmed around 8 p.m. left little room for doubt as to a hazardous spread. “We are lucky because the vegetation is wet thanks to the recent heavy rains”indicated a firefighter positioned on the road in prevention
The weather conditions should be milder tomorrow although a few gusts may persist. At the end of the evening, if the residents were reassured, the fire of January 2018 which had ravaged more than 1,000 hectares in the neighboring towns of Chjatra and Canale was on everyone's lips. Like a nightmare that no one would like to relive.
