This year again, we couldn’t miss the biggest metal festival in France, with more than 180 bands on the program to discover over 4 days and less than 3 hours by train from Paris! Going out to Paris means getting away from the capital for a few days and allowing you to experience the 17th edition of Hellfest as if you were there! The first concerts of the day were announced for 4:30 p.m., but there were already people on the site of the Hellfest early in the afternoon. With the doors opening at 2pm and the weather being nice, the first festival-goers took advantage of the opportunity to wander the aisles, to sunbathe on the grass or to rush to the Sanctuary to stock up on Hellfest-branded items and clothing.

Second year for The Sanctuaryand the success continues! This year again, the official merchandising store of the Hellfest gave rise to an impressive queue, even going as far as the Altar stage, from the opening until the closing of the site. Once again, the metalheads did not hesitate to wait for several hours to obtain t-shirts, sweatshirts or even caps and mugs bearing the image of the Hellfest !

Asinhell : this is the group which inaugurated Mainstage 1 this Thursday June 27, first day of the 2024 edition of Hellfest. And one thing is certain, the Danish death metal band had the perfect recipe to set the mood thanks to ultra powerful beats and very sharp riffs, all carried by the powerful voice of Mark Grewe (ex-Morgoth, Insidious Disease).

Alongside Marc Grewe, festival-goers had the pleasure of playing guitar Michael Poulsenwho is none other than the charismatic leader of Volbeat. If Michael Poulsen does not use his vocal cords for Asinhell, and remains confined to the guitar, it does not prevent the Danish artist from attracting all eyes, thus putting a smile on the face of the festival-goers positioned at the barrier!

As always, the Hellfest is an opportunity to meet many festival-goers dressed as superheroes, horror movie characters or unidentified lunatics. Jason Voorhees, Mario & Luigi, Ghostbusters or even demons and skeletons… everyone tries to find the best outfit to make a difference and make the audience smile at the same time!

This is THE new feature of this 2024 edition! This year, the festival pulled out all the stops by giving festival-goers a nice surprise with the arrival of the Guardian of Darkness. Installed at the entrance to the Kingdom of Muscadet, in place of the pyramid of fire, the Guardian of Darkness now comes to life thanks to the incredible work of La Compagnie La Machine.

Pivoting on itself, spitting fire, but also water from its mouth and its stinger, the Guardian of Darkness reveals many effects, each one as impressive as the next. While its legs begin to move as does its abdomen, its gaze is as profound as it is disconcerting. The magic works and we want more!

This is the nice surprise of the day! (Dagger)originally from Berlin in Germany, has truly charmed us and taken us into its captivating and soaring universe. Offering a tasty mix of doom, dark rock, gothic rock and ambient sounds, all carried by the enchanting voice of its singer, (Dagger) offered a set that was both intense and atmospheric.

This is one of our big favorites from this first day of Hellfest2024 edition. And it was to be discovered on the Valley. Baptized Green Lungthis British stoner and doom metal band can count on the communicative energy of all its members and the undisputed charisma of its leader to carry us away from the first song. The rest of the set was just as flamboyant and successful. To watch and re-watch to remind us that the NWOBHM (New wave of British heavy metal) is indeed from Great Britain!

Another favorite of the day: the Scandinavians of Dark Tranquillity. This Thursday evening, the public was there under the tent of the Altar stage to discover this flagship group doing melodic death metal. Energy, power and fury really punctuated this hour-long set where old hits rubbed shoulders with new songs, just to prove to us that Dark Tranquillity is still at the top of the bill!
The program continues this Friday, June 28, with concerts by Machine Head, Biohazard, Savage Lands, Tom Morello, Shaka Ponk and Amorphis!
