The price of the Vachon Christmas log has increased considerably and this is making Internet users jump

For two days, a Facebook post about the price of the Christmas log has made several Internet users jump.

In the message published by musician Jean Benoit Lemire, the latter is outraged by the price at which the traditional holiday dessert is displayed in a Metro grocery store.

“To what extent our consumer society is slipping when the Vachon log is $13.99!

$13.99?”, mentions the man, who simply can’t believe it.

In the comments under his post, several Facebook users tend to agree with him by telling their personal point of view, linked to their experience.

One Internet user even shares a photo that he says he took in 2018 and we see that the difference is obvious.

The Vachon log is then displayed at $6.99, half the current price.

On the new fashionable social network, BlueSky, a user took the two images to make a beautiful montage which clearly illustrates the 100% inflation over 6 years that the price of logs has experienced.

In an article dating from December 2022, our colleagues at 24 Hours had already looked into the situation and concluded, at that time, that the price of the Vachon log had increased by 55% in 4 years, taking an average of the prices at six major food chains.

Vachon did not reveal the reasons for this increase, but emphasized “sometimes having to make adjustments when the price of ingredients increases to continue to offer the products that [les consommateurs] love.”

And this is what means that today, in November 2024, a Vachon Yule log costs 14 Canadian dollars.

At the same time, it’s the price of a trio of Big Macs…
