2024 legislative elections: is La France Insoumise far left?

The expression “the extremes” comes up regularly in the debates which have animated the legislative campaign since the dissolution of the National Assembly on June 9. But classifying LFI, a member of the New Popular Front, as far left raises questions. The Council of State has already decided. We explain to you in video.

Since the legislative campaign began, political figures, Emmanuel Macron, observers and even Kylian Mbappé have been talking about “the extremes”.

La France insoumise would be the exact opposite on the political spectrum of the National Rally. However, classifying this party as far left does not reflect the reality of political balances.

On June 13, the Council of State, which is the highest administrative court in France, ruled: LFI, like the Communist Party, belongs to the “left” shade. Unlike the NPA and Lutte Ouvrière classified on the extreme left. Already on March 11, 2024, the institution reached the same conclusion.

Legislative elections 2024: why is the RN a far-right party?

At election time, the Ministry of the Interior establishes a classification of parties, distinguishing between the extreme left, the left, various centres, the right and the extreme right. This allows citizens to better perceive the results.

But then what is the far left?

Historians place the Trotskyist, Maoist, anarchist and anti-fascist movements in this box. The latter advocate a break with the capitalist system, are of revolutionary tendency and very critical of the reformist left.

Legislative: have you missed an episode since the dissolution? We’ll remake the film for you

Today, LFI is not part of this movement. Especially since the party is running in the legislative elections under the New Popular Front banner alongside the Socialist, Communist and Ecologist Parties. A left-wing coalition, therefore.
