Again ! The American manufacturer Ford continues to reduce its workforce! This Wednesday, it announced 4,000 new job cuts in Europe by the end of 2027, mainly in Germany and the United Kingdom, its two historic industrial bases on the Old Continent. The new announced plan will affect 14% of the group's workforce in Europe (28,000). Of these deletions, 2,900 will concern Germany, 800 the United Kingdom. This announcement comes in addition to the 3,800 job cuts already announced last year on the Old Continent.
Ford has a clear strategy to reduce its footprint on the Old Continent. It is the manufacturer having actually closed the most sites in Europe in twenty years. The Blanquefort mechanical factory, near Bordeaux (910 people in 2018), stopped production in 2019, after 47 years of operation. Ford also suspended engine manufacturing in Bridgend (1,700 jobs), in Wales, in 2020. The American firm had already eliminated the assembly of utility vehicles in Southampton (Great Britain) in 2013, then liquidated its flagship site in Genk (4,300 employees), in Belgium, at the end of 2014.
