The summer of 2022 has been revealing in Calvados. More than 600 hectares of vegetation burned. And the firefighters realized that their means of intervention were insufficient. They have just equipped themselves with new generation tank trucks. Funded by the Calvados department for a total amount of 1.8 million euros.

These all-terrain vehicles – with four-wheel drive – can carry 10,600 liters of water and 200 liters of foam concentrate on board. They are equipped with a nozzle on the roof, which can project water up to 65 meters, preventing firefighters from going out into the blaze.

The first three tanker trucks will be assigned this summer to the emergency centers in Bayeux, Lisieux and Bretteville sur Laize. Two more are due to complete the Calvados fire brigade fleet by next summer. For the moment, 200 agents are trained to operate them. Ultimately, there will be 700 out of a total workforce of 2000 firefighters in Calvados.
