A spectacular accident, which could have gone wrong. Rue Neuve in Niederrœdern, in Bas-Rhin, a crane weighing more than 40 tonnes collapsed on a house, while the owner, aged around fifty, was on the scene.
Around 1:20 p.m., a loud noise echoed in the street, causing fear among local residents. With their eyes wide open, all the residents could only notice the fall of the construction equipment, called by the owner of the premises to install a swimming pool.
The tilt would have occurred due to subsidence under the foot of the crane.
At 7 p.m., the Bas-Rhin firefighters indicated that the owner had already returned home. Victim of minor injuries to the head, the mother was taken to hospital for routine tests. The firefighters point out that she was in the courtyard at the time of the incident, where she received several pieces of debris in the face. The worst was avoided.
Her two children, aged 27 and 21, were not at home during the accident. Due to the damage caused to the house, the family will have to be relocated with relatives.
A security perimeter had been set up around the home while the inspection operations took place. For now, the crane has still not been raised and operations are stopped until tomorrow.
