The 2024 baccalaureate exams are ending. While waiting for the results, some are already thinking about vacations but for others, the headache of catching up remains on their minds. How to prepare for it?
After a week during which several hundred thousand final year students worked on the written philosophy and specialty tests, the following days are devoted to oral exams, of which the Grand Oral is one. Some students have already taken it and are now just waiting for the results to know if they will be able to continue their studies in higher education, and for others, revisions are continuing because the oral exam period ends on July 3. You will then have to wait less than ten days.
At the time of the results the students, not all, will be officially on vacation, because for some of them, it will be necessary to prepare for resits, the ultimate means of obtaining this diploma, a second chance awarded to those who have approached the score of 10/20 but did not manage to get it. To pass the resits, you must have had, at least, an average of 8/20, last year 8.5% of candidates had to go through this. To know if this figure increases or decreases this year, we will have to wait for the publication of the results scheduled between July 8 and 11. While waiting for that day, here are some tips for getting the most out of this event and getting the most points on the big day.
The key information on how the catch-up works is as follows: it is the best mark between that of the written test and that of the catch-up oral which is in fine preserved. If you are a candidate for resit, it is therefore generally advisable to opt for an exam where you obtained a poor grade, in order to optimize your chances of doing better. Another piece of advice: instead of re-reading all your courses, it is recommended to focus on consulting the subjects of the baccalaureate, and in particular the zero subjects of the Ministry of National Education. If you miss part of a yearbook, you can then reread your relevant course sheet diagonally. As for the oral process itself, it is often advisable to be active. Interviewed by CNews, Bertrand Galliot, mathematics teacher and educational director of the academic support site Les Bons Profs, explains that you should not be afraid “to interact with the examiner, to answer questions, to bounce back”. Managing your preparation time well is also essential. Bertrand Galliot recommends on this point to “make a draft without writing too much”. This consists of writing your plan in broad outline, so that you can read it at a glance during the presentation: you then know what you are saying, but without needing to read your sheet.
THE results of the oral remedial exam are provided to candidates immediately after the test, which allows everyone to know if they have collected enough points to obtain a baccalaureate. They are then communicated to the rectorate during the day or at the latest the next day. For this last chance phase, only two tests were taken by the repechage candidates whose objective was to reach a score of 10/20. The remedial tests cover each year the subjects chosen by the candidates: thus, to recover the maximum number of points, the key is to take into account their abilities in the different fields of study, but also the coefficient of each of the tests.
The professional baccalaureate oral remedial test consists of two oral exams, each lasting an average of 30 minutes.
- During the premier oralthe student is questioned on his knowledge and skills in the subjects of the E1 test. Depending on the specialties followed by the candidate, it may be a scientific test, a scientific and technical test, a mathematics or economics-law test.
- The second oral relates to theE5 test of the candidate’s specialty, in other words the French and history-geography test.
In the professional baccalaureate, the oral test is marked out of 20, based on the score out of 10 obtained at the end of each of the two oral exams cited above.
