Hollande believes that “only the coming together of the left can be a bulwark” against the far right

The former head of state estimated this Wednesday that the New Popular Front is the only coalition capable of preventing the National Rally and its allies from gaining power.

Candidate for the New Popular Front (NFP) in the legislative elections, former President of the Republic François Hollande justified this Wednesday on BFMTV his desire to appear before the voters. “The moment is serious,” he judged, emphasizing the fact that “for several days, voting intentions have confirmed that there will indeed be an advance by the extreme right until, perhaps, his coming to power.

“I think that voters are aware that only the coming together of the left can be a bulwark” against the far right, said François Hollande.

“Because who else is the bulwark? Who can prevent the extreme right from assuming responsibility for the country?” asked the former head of state. According to him, it cannot be the outgoing majority led by the Prime Minister and which is “today in tatters, incapable of being able to offer an alternative”.

The NFP, “first of all an alliance to prevent”

The “bulwark” desired by François Hollande cannot, in his eyes, be formed by a right torn between a party which “left precisely with Jordan Bardella”, under the leadership of the contested president of the Republicans Éric Ciotti, and “a another which “explodes every day with the announcements of the departures of the LR”. A reference in particular to the case of the outgoing deputy of Lot Aurélien Pradié, who described the Republicans as a “dead” party.

For François Hollande, an absolute majority of the National Rally and its allies is a “possible scenario” but not a “probable scenario”. “It is sufficiently credible, unfortunately, for me, like others, to be able to get involved,” said the former President of the Republic.

According to the latter, the New Popular Front, although it is “first and foremost an alliance to prevent”, also has the “ambition” of also being “an alliance which can be in a position to govern”. “We don’t just run for elections simply to prevent others from winning,” insisted François Hollande.
