This Tuesday, November 19, 2024, a serious accident occurred in the ski resort of Val Thorens (Savoie), at the arrival station of the Cime Caron cable car, at more than 3,000 meters above sea level. A cabin, used as part of a construction site, violently hit the station, causing several injuries among the 16 workers on board.

Help mobilized in difficult conditions

The accident took place around 7:30 a.m., when particularly difficult weather conditions prevailed in the area. As reported by Le Dauphiné Libéré, two people are seriously injured, but their vital prognosis is not in jeopardy. Four others were slightly injured.

The rescue operations mobilized significant resources: helicopters from the firefighters and the CRS Alpes, ski patrollers from the station, as well as members of the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM). Everyone is working to evacuate the victims via the Orelle-Caron gondola.

An ongoing investigation

According to initial analyses, the cabin was in use for a construction site in progress. The precise circumstances of the incident still remain unclear. An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of this accident, which occurred in the context of work at high altitude.
