Announced at a public meeting on November 13, the work to requalify Rue de l'Île d'Or and Rue Nouvelle, in the train station district of Saumur, begins this Monday, November 18, 2024. This project aims to strengthen the safety of travel while enhancing the heritage framework of this sector.
Several developments are planned. Rue Nouvelle will pass in one direction (from rue de Rouen towards rue Choudieu) with the establishment of a 30 km/h zone and a materialized cycle contraflow, in addition to the creation of sidewalks complying with the standards of accessibility (in light concrete). At Rue de l'Île d'Or, the current direction of traffic is planned to be maintained, with the adoption of the same principles (zone 30 and cycle contraflow). Parking capacities will be increased (gain of 21 new spaces on the two streets) and trees will be planted.
The work will take place in three phases. First at the intersection of the two streets until the end of November (resumption of the rainwater network), then rue de l'Île d'Or until the end of January (parking prohibited and street closed to traffic, local access maintained according to the progress of work) and finally rue Nouvelle for a period of three months from January 2025.
Additional work is planned with the modification of the direction of traffic on rue Gauthiot-Lamy (new direction: rue de Rouen towards rue Grange Couronne) or the passage of rue Gauthiot-Lamy into a 30 km/h zone with contraflow cycling.
