There is clearly an over-representation of arsonists in Fougères… The sub-prefecture of Ille-et-Vilaine experienced a new series of fires on the night of Sunday 17 to Monday 18 November.

The firefighters had to intervene for the first time in Lécousse (commune neighboring Fougères) where three vehicles parked in a street were set on fire shortly before midnight. Firefighters were again mobilized around 3 a.m., this time for the fire of two selective sorting containers in Fougères, rue de la -Hamon.

Although these fires did not cause any injuries, they occurred in a particularly degraded local security context. On September 8, three cars had already gone up in smoke in a building parking lot, not far from the Gorron road. More generally, since 2022, vehicle fires have been regularly reported in Fougères.

In addition to the burned vehicles, other forms of delinquency are manifesting themselves in the city: on the night of Tuesday September 17 to Wednesday September 18, 2024, the Secours populaire premises were ransacked. During the same night, the premises of the Red Cross were also burglarized.

In the Côtes d’Armor, near Loudéac, a burglary attempt was foiled on the evening of Friday, November 15, the criminals having been routed by the alarm of this house located in the village of La Motte. The tenants of the accommodation were absent during this attempted burglary. Gendarmes from the Quintin brigade went to the site in the evening to observe the facts, while the criminals had forced the door of the house.

In the small town, these burglaries have been on the rise for several weeks and theft of equipment committed in private homes has also been reported. Let us also remember that the Le Cithéa cinema, located in the neighboring town of Plouguenast-Langast, was the target of a burglary on the night of September 28 to 29, 2024. Breton rurality has definitively lost its tranquility.
