The anecdote is enough to make you smile: last September, Léon Marchand, quadruple Olympic champion and child of the Pink City, humbly asked permission to participate in an event organized in his honor to celebrate his exploits.

Last September, the famous bar Chez Tonton, located on Place Saint-Pierre, planned to hold a special event dedicated to the star swimmer. For the occasion, large masks bearing the image of the Toulouse resident were distributed.

“He gave us his agreement to organize an evening using his name and image,” says Laurent Maffre, in charge of communications and events at Chez Tonton. Before continuing: “But on the big day, we didn’t know if he would be there!”

Indeed, the champion wanted to participate in… his own evening! This is how, that very morning, Léon Marchand timidly asked if it was possible to have a table so that he could enjoy the event with his friends. “Obviously, we said yes!”, adds Laurent Maffre with a big smile.

Beyond Léon Marchand, Chez Tonton, opened in 1979, has become one of the strongholds of sport and Toulouse athletes, who often (and spontaneously) go there to celebrate successes.
