Fire in Metz

The origin of the fire which ravaged the librairie Feelingsnear the Metz cathedral, still remains unknown. However, the conditions in which it has spread are concerning. Firefighter access proved very complicated. At 4 p.m., certain corners remained inaccessible for the rescue teams.
An Alarming Situation
The mayor of Metz, François Grosdidierexplained that “the basement has become an oven which continues to heat, and whose heat has risen to the frame and the roof.” Fortunately, he clarified that the core of the building was not affected at that time. However, the Hisler bookstore, the adjacent music store, as well as all the apartments in the building, are impacted by the fire, although the severity of the damage remains to be assessed.
Protection of Assets
To protect the property of affected businesses, such as computers and books, firefighters covered most of them. This precaution is intended to prevent them from suffering additional damage caused by the water used to extinguish the fumes.
Ongoing investigation
A investigation was opened by the Metz police in order to determine the causes of this devastating fire. Authorities continue to work on site to manage the situation and assess the damage.
