More precise dating

More than a year later, archaeologists now know a little more. Sunday November 17, 2024, during the two conferences they held on the results of the excavations, at the town hall, they revealed that the circular building would have been erected between « 1422 et 1452, explains Hugo Meunier, responsible for the excavations. We were able to date precisely thanks to the layers of earth and the coins found. »

A “Dantesque” place

It would indeed be an artillery tower, probably made “during work to resume the 100 Years War “, which raged from 1337 to 1453. It bears its mysterious name “ since the 17th centurye century “, perhaps because it was a “windy, isolated place, with conditions that can be dangerous”, explains Samuel Chollet, head of the city’s archaeological service.
