The Péronne hospital is over-indebted, unattractive, and aging: this is the clear finding drawn up by the regional audit chamber which has just examined the activity of the only hospital center in the east of the Somme. The mayor of Péronne Gauthier Maes defends himself on France Bleu Picardie.
Péronne hospital “only very imperfectly meets the needs“of the surrounding population: this is what the Regional Chamber of Accounts writes in a damning report published last month. Over-indebtedness, under-occupancy, lack of recruitment : the defects pointed out are numerous. What does the mayor of Péronne think? Gauthier Maes agreed to answer questions from France Bleu Picardie.
The mayor of Péronne wishes to play down the report of the Regional Chamber of Accounts: “there are only three reminders of the rights, one of which is corrected. From a legislative point of view, the Péronne hospital meets the needs of the law.” However, how can we explain the disaffection of patients who are fewer and fewer people going to the hospital center and he prefer other establishments? “The Péronne hospital is linked to the Saint-Quentin hospital, it is entirely logical that there are bridges between the two.”
The Péronne hospital lost its certification in February awarded by the High Health Authority, which judges “insufficient” quality of care: “we will request a re-evaluation next year and we hope to have this certification“, assures the mayor of Péronne. On the financial management of the hospital, in deficit and over-indebted, which is maintained solely thanks to state aid, Gauthier Maes refers to the situation of other rural hospitals of the same size: “show me a public hospital that survives without public assistance! It doesn't exist. We cannot abandon a population area of 100,000 people. (…) The situation of Péronne is that of current rural France.” The hospital director is committed to several areas of development with the Regional Chamber of Accounts.
