The D3 youth Football team from the Mistral de Mont-Joli school completed a perfect season by winning the Bol d’or thanks to a resounding 37-16 victory, Saturday afternoon, over the Pioneers of Rocher secondary school in Shawinigan.
This is the first provincial title won for a team from Mont-Joli since 2010.
Easily leading 30-0 at the half, Mistral saw its opponents, who were playing the match on their own field, score two touchdowns to bring the score to 30-14.
“They had the momentum and we were looking for solutions. The play of the match belongs to Félix Morin with an interception while the Pioneers were going to score again. We felt the wind shift at that moment. We no longer have to look back,” explains Mistral head coach, Jonathan Porulx, joined by Le Soir.ca.
Zachary Leblanc produced an extraordinary three-touchdown performance in his team’s victory. Roméo Michel and Tristan Boucher scored the majors for Mont-Joli, while François Bonc scored a safety touchdown.
Close-knit team
To win the Bol d’Or, the Mistral will have won six wins in the regular season, two others in the semi-final and final of the Ligue de l’Est-du-Québec before that against Shawinigan.
“Our series and our victory in the final against the Sélect de Rimouski united us as a team. We will lose excellent graduates, but several of our players are in secondary 4, which leads us to believe that we will be able to defend our title in 2025. In Shawinigan, we were counting on the support of the families and friends of our players as well as several elders. Even though we were on the road, the noise was so loud that it felt like we were at home. Their enthusiasm made a big difference,” believes Jonathan Proulx.
The organization promises to celebrate this great victory in the coming weeks in Mont-Joli.
