The 28-year-old quickly fell after taking off from the summit of the Aiguille Verte, more than 4,000 meters above sea level. An investigation has been opened.
The precise reasons for his death remain a mystery. A paraglider, originally from Isère, died this Friday shortly after 11 a.m. He set off from the summit of the Aiguille Verte, at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters. The 28-year-old young man then fell in the Nant blanc sector, northwest of the needle, “obviously due to a problem during takeoff”, indicated the boss of the PGHM (high-mount gendarmerie platoon, Editor’s note) of Chamonix, Etienne Rolland, to our colleagues at FranceBleu.
His companion, still at the top of the green needle, immediately raised the alarm. Alas, when the police and the medical team were airlifted, the victim was already dead. An investigation was opened to clarify the circumstances of the death.
According to the French Free Flight Federation, which brings together Delta, paragliding, kite, kite and boomerang aficionados, twelve people died paragliding in 2022 and eleven in 2021. On November 7, a 50-year-old man from from Saône-et-Loire, died after falling 250 meters following a malfunction in the sail of his paraglider.
