Dramatic accident on the A26 in the Calais – Reims direction, Saturday November 16, 2024 around 2 p.m. Three people died, a woman and two children aged 8 and 10. Their vehicle was apparently hit by another, whose driver was hospitalized in absolute emergency. An investigation into manslaughter has been opened.

It is difficult at the moment to know what happened on the A26 motorway, in the Calais – Reims direction, near the interchange with the A1 motorway, after the 3 crest area.
Around 2 p.m. this Saturday, November 16, 2024, a car driven by a man of Maltese nationality, aged 52, allegedly collided with another vehicle in which there were a woman aged 42 and two boys aged 8 and 10.
The shock would have been extremely violent, according to the firefighters we were able to contact. The children in the backseat as well as the driver were dead when emergency services arrived.
On site, firefighters and SMUR treated the driver of the second vehicle, who was very seriously injured. He was transported to hospital in Lille (North). His vital prognosis is in jeopardy.
Psychological support was put in place for the 21 firefighters mobilized, the gendarmes dispatched to the site and the Sanef agents. The A26 motorway was closed near the accident site for almost 4 hours, while rescue operations took place.
An investigation into manslaughter was opened by the Arras public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of this fatal accident.
