Fireworks fired from a yacht in Greece: the fire is extinguished, not the controversy

A fire broke out on the Greek tourist island of Hydra on Friday evening.

The occupants of a yacht set off fireworks, some elements of which ignited the pine forest.

The mayor does not lose his temper, thirteen people were arrested.

Thirty hectares of vegetation went up in smoke on the Greek tourist island of Hydra, due to fireworks launched from a luxury yacht. Scandal, inconsistency, deplorable attitude… since this weekend, the affair has made headlines in Greece. This Sunday evening, the fire is out but certainly not the controversy.

Hydra is a popular island, one of the most famous in the country. The object of anger is the yacht Persefoni, the rental of which costs more than 200,000 euros per week. An ultra-luxurious vacation enjoyed by around fifteen passengers, tourists from Kazakhstan, with the well-known consequences.

The tourists have already left Greece, without being pursued. On the other hand, the thirteen crew members have just been presented to a prosecutor. Caps and sunglasses so as not to be recognized in front of the cameras. Everyone denies the facts. Justice does not want to waste time, their trial will begin in two days. They each risk up to 20 years in prison in a context where Greece for several days has been experiencing very high temperatures of up to 44 degrees and devastating fires recorded in certain regions.
