XALIMANEWS- At the end of the meeting of the National Consumer Council, held this Friday, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Serigne Gueye Diop, announced that the proposed measures aimed at stabilizing and regulating prices throughout the territory will be effective from Monday June 24, 2024.

These decisions come as part of a strong government desire to guarantee a more stable and predictable economic environment for consumers and economic players.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade thus confirms that the measures to lower prices will be “immediately effective in all regions”. To ensure the uniform application of these prices, the Regional Consumer Council will be convened as soon as possible in order to adjust the differences linked to transport across the country. »

Regarding support measures, the ministry says it works closely with key stakeholders such as importers, traders, manufacturers and consumers to ensure strict compliance with prices. A series of provisions, including the obligation to advertise and display prices in all stores, will be implemented upon the signing of the ministerial decree scheduled for today.

The ministry also announced a significant strengthening of controls on the ground, involving not only consumer volunteers but also the defense and security forces. This mobilization, according to him “aims to ensure effective and dissuasive surveillance across the entire territory. »

At the same time, the minister called for “active collaboration of all economic and community stakeholders, including community relays and neighborhood leaders, to report any difficulties encountered in the application of these measures. »

For long-term structural measures, the ministry plans to continue to strengthen the policy of economic sovereignty, in particular through “the modernization of distribution and the establishment of reference stores such as Sonadis. An in-depth reflection will also be undertaken with the High Consumer Council and other bodies to set up an inclusive consultation. »
